Project Artaud Corporation (PAC), a pioneering multi-disciplinary arts
complex in San Francisco’s Mission District announces a Request for
Proposals (RFP) for the competitive selection of a long-term leaseholder
to occupy the main theater space (formerly known as Theater Artaud).

The main theater space is nearly 13,000 square feet, with 40′ ceilings,
and is adaptable to many kinds of arts usages. Over the past 7-years
it has been operated by Project Artaud as Project Artaud Theater, presenting
work from renowned local, national, and international groups. It is
currently being programmed by ODC Theater while their theater space
(just 4-blocks away on 17th St) is under renovation. Following ODC’s
departure, and for the first time in its history, this unique and magnificent
space is being offered to the arts community on a long-term lease basis
at a substantial discount below current market value.

We encourage applications from non-profit and for-profit organizations,
coalitions of organizations and businesses, as well as individual artists.
Reflecting the original mission of Project Artaud, the use of the main
theater space must be arts related, however proposals from all arts
usages (performance, visual art, film, multimedia, etc.) are invited
to apply.

Founded in 1971 by a cooperative membership, Project Artaud is a pioneering
multi-disciplinary arts complex in San Francisco’s Mission District.
It is one of the oldest non-profit, member-run live/work institutions
in the country. The building, built in 1925 as a machine shop for the
now defunct American Can Company, takes up an entire city block and
supplies exhibition space, 78 studios housing 90+ artists / residents,
and is also the home to Theater of Yugen, A Traveling Jewish Theater,
and Project Artaud Theater (formerly Theater Artaud).
